SUBJECT OVERVIEW
The aim of the Modern Foreign Languages department is to create compelling learning experiences in which all students enjoy, make progress and achieve through language learning. Learning languages contributes to inter-cultural understanding, a sense of global citizenship and personal fulfillment. The ability to understand and communicate in another language is a lifelong skill for education, employment and leisure in this country and throughout the world.
Ultimately, we want our students to have a love of languages and aim to achieve this by nurturing a linguistic curiosity and a motivation to explore and respect other cultures.
Students are given the opportunity to study either French or Spanish from year7.

At key stage 3 we use the Viva course for Spanish and for French we use Studio both published by Pearson.

In year 10 and 11 students study AQA GCSE French or Spanish.
Students study all of the following themes on which the assessments are based.

MFL at GCSE has a Foundation Tier (grades 1–5) and a Higher Tier (grades 4–9).
