SUBJECT OVERVIEW
The curriculum is designed to be accessible and meet the needs of all students. Students will develop problem solving techniques and use activities to develop understanding.
Our students are taught maths on a 5 year fully sequenced curriculum. All students in years 7 and 8 have 7 lessons per fortnights, whilst those in year 9/10/11 have nine maths lessons per fortnight.
Students follow a differentiated scheme of work designed to build and develop their mathematical ability. The key principles of the scheme are:
- Fluency
- Problem Solving
- Mathematics Reasoning
- Multiplicative Reasoning
- Reflection
Students in years 7-10 will be set homework weekly based on Hegarty Maths. Students in year 11 will be set homework weekly in a combination of Hegarty Maths and practice maths exam papers.
Students in years 7-10 are assessed formally, internally, three times during the academic year. These students also complete in class unit tests at the end of teaching specific content.
Students in Y11 are assessed formally, internally, three times during the year. These students will complete past GCSE exam papers and given formal grades.
Key Stage 3
When students join us in year 7 their SATs scaled score help us to set the students based on ability. This then allows us to decide which pathway the students will follow in years 7 and 8. Pi, Theta and Delta are all designed to challenge students accordingly and allow for the development of key mathematical skills.

Key Stage 4
Our students continue their studies in year 9 on either a higher or foundation pathway. This is determined by analysing their data and ability over the course of years 7 and 8. This does not determine their exam tier entry as the content is fluid and does cross over.
There is flexibility during year 9 and year 10 to move a student between each pathway.
Students on the higher tier pathway are taught the following content in each term
