SUBJECT OVERVIEW

Music at St Nicolas Academy promotes and encourages active and critical participation in a wide range of activities in the school and the wider community.

Departmental work is aimed at, and is open to, all students throughout the age and ability range regardless of any other factors.

Through musical education, students gain life-long skills and personal enjoyment.

Music is taught to KS4 Btec Level 2, GCSE Music, KS5 Btec level 3.

In recent years, many existing students have progressed to universities from Red Brick Universities in Liverpool to performance-based universities in London. Several students also now teach the subject to others.

The Music Department consists of 1, fully equipped classrooms for general teaching and activities. There are three smaller practice rooms for individual tuition and a 1 large live room and recording studio which is used to record solo, ensemble and class performances.

There are many musical instruments for classroom use, including a selection of acoustic and electronic instruments in each of the main teaching rooms.

The Department offers a wide range of extra-curricular activities including Choirs Main school choir (The Harmonics), RockBand, Performance Techniques, Samba and a smaller student run ensemble groups.

Students are encouraged and welcome to use the facilities before, during and after normal school hours.

Other ensembles are formed at times during the school year to perform at special events, concerts and out of school activities.

We aim to partake in a number of External events each year to showcase both our student and our school and give them memorable opportunities. We also have links with other schools and aim to take part in interschool performances.
