SUBJECT OVERVIEW

Sociology is the study of social groups (people) in society.  Sociology is a fascinating way of trying to understand our complex society.  Studying this subject allows you opportunities to develop a greater understanding and critical awareness of society and to make sense of your own experiences within it.  You will step outside of your own bubble and rethink your own opinions and assumptions.

During the course, you will study different aspects of the sociology of the family, sociology of crime and exploring identity in society.  You will investigate the influences society has on identity and the culture that we live in.

This subject is particularly useful for those students wishing to study education, health, nursing or social work in further or higher education and for those wishing to pursue a career within these sectors.

At present we offer Sociology at KS4 (GCSE) and KS5 (AS and A2).
