SUBJECT OVERVIEW

Children’s Play, Learning and Development is a course that allows students to develop the knowledge, skills and understanding needed to look after and work with children.  It also gives them an insight into their own learning and development.  Practical aspects of the course and work related learning allows students to further develop the hands on skills needed and gain relevant experience working with children ages 0-8 years and apply the theory they acquire from lessons.
 
The course stands students in good stead for further education and/or future employment.

SCHEMES OF WORK

KEY STAGE 4

We deliver:
  • BTEC Level 2 First Award in Children’s Play, Learning and Development: this is equivalent to one GCSE.  The qualification consists of 3 compulsory units
  • Unit 1 – Patterns of Child Development
  • Unit 2 – Promoting Children’s Development Through Play
  • Unit 3 – The Principles of Early Years Practice

KEY STAGE 5

We deliver:
  • CACHE L3 Certificate in Childcare and Education.
  • This course provides students with a professionally recognised early qualification.  Students complete mandatory work based learning in a variety of private nursery and primary school settings.  Students enjoying seeing how their learning in school applies to the real world and work environment.  The course also provides UCAS points allowing students to progress on to university courses.
